Stanford Hillel 2019 tour to Poland

Between March 23-31, 2019, 15 students from Stanford University, one student from the University of California at Berkeley and one student from Mills College led by Nathalie Landesman, Stanford HILLEL Program Director, Partnerships, Global Jewish Peoplehood, and Natalia Czarkowska, Taube Jewish Heritage Tours, joined together on a third tour entitled: Exploring Poland, Jewish Life Nationhood Belonging: – An Insider’s Exclusive Tour Through Historical and Present-day Poland. The tour’s scholar-in-residence was Dr. Kama Dabrowska, Educator, and Guides Unit Manager at the POLIN Museum.

The group toured through Warsaw, explored the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, discovered the Ringelblum Archives at the Jewish Historical Institute, met with a Warsaw 1944 Uprising veteran and spent me with peers at Hillel-Warsaw.

The students visited Chmielnik and Tarnow, small towns with rich Jewish heritage, commemorated the Holocaust at Auschwitz-Birkenau, and engaged with history through walking workshops in Krakow’s Old Town and Kazimierz, meetings with scholars, cultural activists and community representatives.

Thank you to Hillel at Stanford and the Taube Philanthropies for supporting this trip and to participants for joining us on this extraordinary journey!
