DIS Autumn 2019 visit in Warsaw

Taube Jewish Heritage Tours is proud of its longstanding partnership with DIS Copenhagen. This October we co-organized second this year, Polish part of a study tour in partnership with DIS Copenhagen, called “Competing Narratives: Modern European History” – a study tour to Warsaw and Berlin.

Twenty-two students, led by Prof. Brendan Sweeney, DIS Copenhagen Semester & DIS Summer Faculty, visited Warsaw to learn how selective ways of remembering Europe’s past have shaped collective and individual identities.

The students were very much focused on how the World War II, the Holocaust, and the Communist era influenced contemporary Poland. They discussed and learned about the Polish national identity, it’s history and development, and what are the biggest political challenges that the country is now facing.

Students also travelled to Treblinka Museum of Struggle & Martyrdom. In

Warsaw they toured the city’s Old Town, visited POLIN Museum of the History Of Polish Jews and Muranów, a district in Warsaw rebuilt after WWII, known for its Socialist Realist housing estates, political street art, and its Jewish history.

The students also had the opportunity to meet and talk to specialists in the field of Polish history and politics.

Thank you for joining us in Poland! We look forward to providing you with more opportunities to explore the past within the context of the present. Contact us at tours@taubejewishheritagetours.com and plan a tour for your students today!
