The Liebhaber and Goldstein families commemoration

It was an honor for the Taube Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland Foundation to assist Dr. Anita Friedman, President of the Koret Foundation, who sponsored commemorative events in the town of Gniewoszow on July 9, 2019. These inspiring events would not have been possible without the vision and dedication of Dr. Friedman whose parents were survivors from Gniewoszow. Members of the Liebhaber and Goldstein families, also descendants of Gniewoszow, were present as well.

A copy of a painting of the town square, created in America by well-known artist Harry Lieberman, a family member and surviving son of Gniewoszow, was donated to the city library. In addition, a plaque at a mass grave commemorating the tragic murders of Jews in Gniewoszow in September 1945 was installed at the Jewish cemetery by Chief Rabbi of Poland, Michael Schudrich. The words of Yaakov Goldstein, whose parents were among those murdered in September 1945 and those of the children and grandchildren of the artist Harry Lieberman, inspired hope in finding a path to healing and a renewed commitment to tikkun olam (repairing the world).
