Netzer Australia 2019 study tour in Poland

Taube Jewish Heritage Tours co-organized a heritage tour in partnership with Netzer Australian madrichim and Progressive Community.

The group of 16 students participated in a 10-day-long educational seminar in Germany and Poland. Led by Netzer Shaliach Sefi Shalam and co-organized by Natalia Czarkowska from Taube Jewish Heritage Tours, the seminar focused on European history, with visits to historical sites tainted by the Holocaust, and also on modern Jewish life.

The group toured from Berlin to Wroclaw through Bedzin, Krakow, Warsaw, and Lodz. They visited and commemorated the Holocaust at Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum and the Memorial and the Museum of Struggle and Martyrdom in Treblinka.

The seminar was filled with meetings, discussions and guided tours. Among many highlights were: the Schindler’s Factory in Krakow, POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw and the Manufaktura in Lodz.  Students met with Piotr Jakoweńko from Brama Cukermana in Bedzin, where they learned about the protection of Jewish heritage in Polish small towns and with Michael Rubenfeld in Krakow, where they discussed everyday Jewish life in modern Poland.

The trip concluded in Warsaw with a beautiful Kabbalat Shabbat at the Ec Chaim Progressive Synagogue, which Rabbi Stas Wojciechowicz co-led with Netzer Australia.
